Wallace Theatre presents Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat
Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat is a vibrant, musical retelling of the biblical story of Joseph, focusing on his
journey from betrayal to triumph. Joseph’s eleven brothers, jealous of the attention
he receives, plot to get rid of him. They sell him into slavery, and he is taken to
Egypt. Despite the betrayal, Joseph's remarkable ability to interpret dreams leads
him to rise in prominence.
He eventually becomes a trusted advisor to Pharaoh, who is troubled by a series of
strange dreams. Joseph interprets these dreams as a prediction of seven years of plenty
followed by seven years of famine, and he advises Pharaoh on how to prepare for the
coming disaster. Meanwhile, Joseph's brothers, facing famine back home, travel to
Egypt in search of food. They don’t recognize Joseph, who is now dressed in Egyptian
attire and in a position of power. After a series of tests, Joseph reveals his identity
to his brothers, forgiving them for their past actions. He invites his entire family
to come and live in Egypt, where they are provided for during the years of famine.
The production captures themes of forgiveness, hope, and God's faithfulness, making
it a powerful vehicle for discussing God's redemptive work.
